Flower Care
How to care for your flowers and make beautiful moments last longer
Flowers are all about love and care. We send flowers to express our deepest
emotions and sentiments in any occasion, and just the same, we can make them last
longer by using an equal depth of nurturing and nourishment. Whether what you
have is a single flower bud, a small bunch of flowers, or an abundant floral arrangement,
a little extra care always make a big difference. The life span of floral arrangements
vary, depending on the types of flowers used and the type of care they receive.
Florabella makes it easy to keep your flowers more vibrant and lasting, and hold
on to those precious moments longer through flowers, in five simple steps:
- Start fresh. Always begin by using a clean vase or container to hold your
flowers.
- Feed your flowers. Add a packet of cut flower food to warm water and pour
onto your flower vase or container.
- Clear the way. Pull off all leaves that will be covered by vase water.
Submerged leaves will rot and create bacteria, shortening the life of your bouquet.
- Get them ready. Cut the stem of each flower under water diagonally using
a sharp knife or pair of scissors. This prevents air pockets from forming inside
the stems, which block water uptake into the flowers. Recut every three days or
so.
- Show them off. Display your flowers in a cool, draft-free location, away
from harsh sunlight and heat vents. Do not set flowers on top of a TV set.
Keep them cherished. Top off water daily and replace water totally after
several days. Flowers like to be spray-misted, too! When you're down to your last
few blooms, change to a smaller vase.
Quick Flower Care Tips
- Show off your beautiful bouquets and flower arrangements in different
types of vases and containers. The possibilities are endless – from an antique
teapot or brass urn to an elegant crystal vase or a simple glass jar. Avoid containers
made of steel or iron.
- Make sure your vase is leak-proof, and has a neck and water reservoir
large enough for your flowers to fit comfortably.
- When choosing your flowers, look for the ones with upright, firm petals
and buds that are just beginning to open. Yellow, spotted or drooping leaves are
signs of age, so stay away from them.
- Stems should never be broken off or flattened, not even "woody
stems". Scraping off the bark will also shorten a flower's life.
- Flowers do not like direct sunlight or draught. Also keep them away
from fruit, as it lets off a gas called ethylene, which accelerates the aging
process of flowers.
